In 1807 the
first statute of Decoration of Military Order was approved. The first decorations had no
numbers & afterwards were returned to the Capitul for application of numbers according
to Capitul orders list. There were approximately 9 thousands of them
At the first decorating with Military Order, the low rank salary was increased in one
third; accomplishing another deed subject to the statute, the low rank salary was
increased in one third more & so on up to maximum double rate, & the order was
given out one time. In 1883 the new edition of statute ordered the low ranks with repeated
deeds to wear the Military Order with ribbon & bow in order to mark out low ranks
recommended for the decoration several times. Originally the Military Order could be
received by low ranks of Christian religion; non-Christians were decorated with medals for
courage & diligence. This caused resentment from low ranks-non-Christians since every
soldier dreamed to have a cross with "warrior" picture upon his chest. Since
1884 Decorations of Military Order started to be assigned to low ranks-non-Christians.
These decorations differed in the point that obverse & reverse central medallion had a
National Emblem of Russia - double-headed eagle. The picture of emblem was due to that
non-Christians couldn't have picture of George the Victorious, a Christian saint. The
crosses numbering for the "infidels" was different, all in all 1368 were given
out up to 1856. With Military Orders in 1849 the tsar Alexander II decorated veterans of
Prussian war for the war with Napoleon & the special distinction of these orders was
the monogram A II on the upper beam as well as different numbering (sign "N" was
stamped on the left reverse beam & the right reverse had the cross number), there were
such 4264 orders. The information about decorations & crosses numbers were handed to
the Capitul of orders where they were registered & kept within special lists. Below
